Four Lions
With no English subtitles available, this felt nearly incomprehensible to me. It was recommended by a coworker after he saw that I was planning to watch The Sound of Metal.
Ultimately, hilarious. Riz Ahmed and Kayvan Novak have this incredible comedic energy together and the dialogue and timing had me yelp-laughing. Maybe because it’s British or something but it does not hold back on what I feel like would now be considered taboo or in bad taste.
(On a side note, I’m wondering if I give too much credit to older movies. I simply don’t watch all that many movies so when I watch any older movie doing anything, I’m like “Wow! Cool, they had that back then!” which is both patronizing and reductive. I’m not really thinking about it with the context at the time and mostly coming from a POV of Did I enjoy that? Yes or no. What cool things could I be missing because I’m just so blown away by the fact that yes of course they effing had cameras back then and this is what they decided to shoot. Now look at what they made, think about it, don’t just marvel and be grateful that you can see whatever was made.
I dunno, I’m thinking about maybe placing less emphasis (T_T) on whether or not I enjoyed a movie and more on something else. Not exactly sure what yet though)
Funny.
