I’ve spent less than 5 minutes back on SoundCloud and I feel like music is worth listening to and discovering again.
I’ve been saying that I’ve been in a “music slump” for almost over a year now. I thought of various things that might help me out:
- going to live shows
- learning to play an instrument
- listening to just noise
But none of those really worked. Live shows because I haven’t gone to one since the pandemic started and am still a bit too worried about crowds. Also because the kinds of music and musicians I want to see live have dwindled down so much, I don’t even know who I’d love to see that much anyway. (I am going to see Chinese Football in October after Annie told me they’re playing, but even this I’m mostly interested in getting a look at their merch lol)
I’ve been too busy enjoying my other hobbies to commit to picking up an instrument.
Noise was actually great but it didn’t lead to me enjoying other music.
A big part of this is how much Spotify sucks doodoo. A list of grievances with this fuckass app:
- the family blend !!! Like nooooo don’t put the songs I’m listening to on blast in a packagable, consumable lil playlist for others in my family plan to use what the hell
- recommending the song Mother Nature’s Bitch by Okay Kaya, like I never wanted so badly to block a song or artist as much as I wanted to for this track like WHY did it keep showing up
- couldn’t block users for the longest time
- music discovery is so ooo oooooo bad !!! the daily mixes and made for you were TRASH ! >:( literally have no idea why they kept pushing the artists and tracks they were toward me. God forbid a woman listens to the Yarichin Bitch Club’s ending theme song on repeat because it’s catchy and suddenly yaoi is one of your top listened to genres in wrapped…
- the AI dj……. put him down…
- they rejected my application for Senior Data Scientist… like you couldn’ta just given me the job. Now look how that turned out
Anyway, I’m glad to be looking at alternatives again.
